Boy Scout Park resides in Temple Terrace, Florida and is adjacent to Riverhills Park. Many who come to enjoy Riverhills Park never venture as far south as Boy Scout Park, but those that do find preserved are of natural Florida. A nice trail leading into lush foliage with parts along the Hillsborough River (watch our for nesting gators!). This trail has several different types of ferns, many almost as tall as five feet. After rains, the colors are very vibrant and the soil is often muddy.
Many animals live in this area including raccoons, possums, armadillos - but several years ago, I travelled back into this area and found barred owls which was a rare treat. Every day I walked my dog (Dolly) on this path at about the same time and the owl would look down at us - finally I decided it was time to capture the owl's portrait.
Recently, Hillsborough County had a photo contest for ELAPP "Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program Calendar". Boy Scout Park is among the areas that are part of this program, so I ventured to one of my favorite places and took some pictures one day to be submitted. This picture below won one of the spots for the monthly feature in 2016.
Entrance to Boy Scout Park is shown above with lush ferns bordering both sides.
