Moore Family Cemetery, Lake Royale, North Carolina
When I was planning our last RV trip that we took in May 2025, I had two goals of things/people I wanted to see. The first was to visit the Moore Family Cemetery located in Franklin county, North Carolina - more specifically, in Lake Royale, North Carolina. The second was to see our friends Janet and Landon (see Hyco Lake Campground blog post).

This appears to be a small family cemetery located (per Google maps) at 1418 Sagamore Dr, Wake Forest, NC
Lake Royale today is a community that is gated - you must get a pass to go into this subdivision. Fortunately for me, my new friend, Shannon, was kind enough to get us a pass (otherwise I would have had to figure something else out because legally they cannot prevent you from visiting a family cemetery in North Carolina - not sure about other states).
Many many years ago, oh heck - over a century ago my family lived in this area - and thanks to a wonderful "FindAGrave" volunteer, Shannon - she found my third great grandfather.
Think about this - some of the people that are in this cemetery died in the 1800s - that's how old this cemetery is. It's a typical small family cemetery - it's not even as big as our house (and our house big).
So who are these people?
Going back in time....my father was Tyrus Ollie Perdue
My grandfather is George Ollie Perdue
My great grandfather is George Andrew Perdue
My great great grandfather is Macon L. Perdue
My great great great grandfather is James (Jim) Perdue - this is the person that I went to see his final resting place. He was born about 1792 and died in 1859 (166 years ago!).
This cemetery is called the "Moore Family Cemetery".
The family cemetery has a low stone wall around it - made of concrete - about 2 feet high with a gate on the far end of it.
This is a well maintained piece of land. They are building houses on either side of this family cemetery.
There are 3 rows of graves in this cemetery - my 'immediate line' of family is in the middle row of this cemetery.
This is his name hand written in the stone - it's a large concrete slab covering the entire 'grave'. We put water on it to allow us to easily see the name on the stone. There are 2 other Perdue stones in this cemetery. Mary Perdue, the wife of Jim Perdue. Mary Baskett we (those researching the family history) believe is the woman who married James Perdue. Mary was born about 1797 and died after she made her will in November 1865.
And the third Perdue stone is for "Jump Perdue". This particular ancestor I have not been able to determine who it is. I know that "Jump" may be a nick name - and I know that Jim and Mary had a son named "Julian" that potentially died young - and perhaps it is his grave.
There are many different "Stallings" family members buried in this cemetery as well. Jim and Mary Perdue had several known children.
My great, great grandfather Macon L. Perdue (who died before his parents)
Elizabeth Perdue (Betty) - Born on 1 April 1840, Died on 21 February 1905. She married William Badger Stallings. William was born 18 June 1832 and died on 22 March 1920.
